During a recent weekly staff prayer meeting Rachel Ballard, principal of BCS, gave thanks for the fourth and fifth graders’ debate team. This BCS team is the only private Christian school team participating in the city-wide Baltimore Urban Debate League. They performed so well in their first competition that they then competed against a group of middle schools (6th-8th graders), in which they took second place. In the next competition, these BCS 4th and 5th graders took first place in the entire middle school debate tournament. While that was impressive, the debate coach assigned to them was even more impressed with how polite, respectful, and well-behaved the BCS debate team was. During one visit to BCS, while the students were watching a movie stressing Christian values, the coach asked, “What is this all about?” A BCS teacher took the opportunity to share the gospel with him and assisted the man in accepting Christ’s offer of salvation right there and then! He is presently being discipled in his new faith by Kent Ballard, the principal’s husband.
What is this all about? It is all about God working in and through the ministries and body of FCF to create a context to celebrate the reconciling work of Christ, and to build grace-filled disciples to serve Pen Lucy, Baltimore, and the world. Be encouraged!
