Counseling Ministry
Counseling Services
“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing but let us encourage one another—and all the more as we see the day approaching.” —Hebrews 10:23–25
Leader: Kim Sutter
Purpose Statement:
We agree with the Christian Counseling and Education Foundation’s (hyperlinked to CCEF website) mission to “restore Christ to counseling, and counseling to the church”. The FCF counseling ministry exists to provide wise, biblical counsel to members in need and to train members to do so for others.
Kim Sutter is a part time pastoral counselor on theFCF staff and can provide up to five hours per week of crisis intervention and short term counseling for members of FCF who may ask, through the church office, to see her for individual counsel, to discuss any personal or spiritual issue. If the situation requires more attention, Kim will work with the member to establish a direction for dealing wisely with the issue which could include being referred back to a specific Level 2 person (see below), or being referred to an outside therapist, or continuing to meet with Kim for up to 5 sessions with a donation on a sliding scale being made payable to FCF. The first consultation is free for FCF members.

The goal of the ministry is to continue counseling training in a variety of formats, including covenant groups and one day seminars. The intention is to raise the level of biblical wisdom of Level 1 and Level 2 counselors in the body, which are explained below.
Level 1
All members of the body are called to encourage one another and “spur one another on to love and good deeds” this is done through working alongside each other in mutual ministry, sharing with one another and concentrated prayer, helping people become more sensitive and more loving.
Level 2
Level two counseling is provided by people in the congregation who have demonstrated Christian maturity through a proven Christian walk; have a basic familiarity with - knowledge of and obedience to—the Word of God, interpersonal sensitivity, and gifts of discernment; and who are willing to work under the Session to help people deal with the “tough issues” of living the Christian life. Elders, deacons and Covenant Group facilitators are among those called upon to serve in this way.
We seek to create a group of Level 2 counselors in the FCF body.
Our biggest prayer request is for all of FCF to have humble hearts as we seek to discern issues in our own lives and to help others in the body.
